Supply List for Grade 9-12 High School Mathematics and Business Courses
To ensure a successful start to the semester, students are asked to bring the following supplies to their grade 9-12 mathematics &/or business classes:
- Pencils (a pack of 12)
- Erasers (2 or 3)
- Three-hole lined paper or a notebook(s) - (enough for the semester)
- One-pack of graph paper (100 sheets)
- Pencil sharpener (with an enclosed compartment for shavings)
- Clear plastic ruler (15 cm or 30 cm) for graphing
- Pencil case
- Binder (with dividers if students use it for all their semester courses)
- A non-programmable scientific calculator. Cellphones, smartwatches, etc., are NOT permitted for use for in-class work or assessments (***please see the note below about calculators for specific grade 11 & 12 university level courses: MCR3U, MHF4U, MCV4U)
***Grade 11 & 12 University Level Courses (MCR3U, MHF4U, MCV4U):
Students in these courses - Grade 11 Functions, Grade 12 Advanced Functions, Grade 12 Calculus and Vectors - will be provided with a Texas Instruments TI-30XIIS model calculator to use for tests and assessments. Students will still require their own scientific calculator for in-class and at home use, and the TI-30XIIS is a standard calculator available at many places if students choose to purchase it. However, students can opt to use a different scientific calculator for coursework, except for assessments. We are standardizing the calculators on assessments to ensure a level playing field and remove advantages that many calculators offer. Too often we observe that students avoid skill development (fractions/exponents/equation-solving) and let the calculator "do the work". These courses are intended to prepare students for post-secondary programs in math/science/business/engineering, and many university programs also limit calculators to specific models.
